2026 CNAW Brochure
We hope you’ll be joining us for our 38th year of camp! We have been networking with our vendors to add even more activities than years past, to potentially include lake days, animal care, horseback riding, archery, and more! And most importantly spicing up our asthma and allergy discovery curriculum.
We look forward to seeing you at camp.
We need campers!
Campers are ages 7-14 years old (based on the date of the beginning of camp).
We offer a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program for all our former campers that are ages 15-17 years old. These campers have experienced camp as a camper, and now want to come back and contribute to the future campers. They get assigned to a cabin cohort to do the activities available, but also start learning valuable leadership skills in the process. The CITs take a one-hour a day class to learn about leadership, conflict resolution, managing others, and many other skills that they can put on their college applications and utilize in the future! We have a complete curriculum built specifically for them to thrive!
Cost and Camperships
Send your camper for one week residential summer camp up in the cool pines, Camp Shadow Pines in Heber, AZ!
$50 application fee secures your camper’s spot and total cost of camp is $1050 (covers cost of vendors, Discovery program, medical volunteers, etc). We provide Camperships (scholarships) for a majority of campers based on financial need, as well as donor designated qualifications!
Activities and Vendors
Horseback Riding contracted through MacDonald’s Ranch.
Lake Adventures, including kayaking, paddleboards, and safe water fun, contracted through Adventure Encounter.
Archery safety and learning how to shoot a bow and arrow, contracted through Corner Archery.
Discovery– a fun and educational hour each day of camp where campers learn about their allergies or asthma and how to manage their conditions, including triggers, symptoms, that they aren’t alone in their situation, how to speak to others to make them aware of their conditions, and many more! Campers list this as one of their top activities every year because they go home more informed than ever!
Drama/Theater– campers learn about acting and what it takes to put on a skit. Each cabin gets to come up with a script, utilize props, and perform in front of the whole camp their skit about a situation involving an asthma or allergic episode. They incorporate what they have learned in Discovery to show how to handle the situation as well! This is taught by a published playwright, C. Lynn Johnson.
Music- learn to use their lungs and have some fun! Our musician, Woody, is an amazing performer and knows how to get even the most stubborn kiddo singing and dancing along. He loves summer camps and has been singing at Camp Not-A-Wheeze for over 30 years!
Other activities include: hiking, arts & crafts, tie dye, cooking, newspaper fashion show, and many other surprise in store every year, we switch it up!
Bussing
Complementary bussing provided from Tempe/Mesa, AZ to and from the camp. (location TBD)
Food & Lodging
Food and Lodging is provided complementary for all campers during their 5 nights, 6 days at camp!
Volunteers
We need licensed medical volunteers (MD/DO, RCP, RN, RPH/PharmD, EMT-Paramedic, NP/PA). Must have an Arizona License or compact license that incorporates AZ.
We need student volunteers– college students currently enrolled in one of the programs listed for medical volunteers.
We need operational support staff (18+ years of age, drivers license) to assist with cabin management and facilitate activities. These volunteers usually have a specific task at camp and are accepted based on camper/adult ratios after all student volunteer applications have been processed.
All volunteers are required to pass state and federal background checks.
Volunteers will be in the cabin areas with their assigned cabin cohort to assist with monitoring of the campers and activity schedules throughout the day. Campers will be with medical volunteers at all times to ensure a safe environment and to discover any reactions in a timely manner. We have an infirmary team always available as well to help with any additional medical needs of the campers.
